First day

May 13th, 2012

Wow, I don’t know even where to begin – I feel like I’ve done so much already.  After endless hours of flying and camping out at the airport, we finally made it to Florence and discovered that not only is it crazy cold, but it also is really windy/rainy here.  Seeing Italy for the first time was surreal, it was beautiful and looked like a place from a painting.  With the red roofs, cobblestone roads, and rolling hills you couldn’t ask for a better view.

At around 9am we met up with the rest of our roommates from the program and managed to find our way to our apartment. It’s 2 blocks away from Duomo, (see picture below).  First off, our apartment is a massive 3 bedrooms/3 bath place for 6 people.  We have archways, a private garden area, murals on the ceilings – it’s ridiculous. I love it here! Here’s just a few pictures from today but there will be more to come! You can click the pictures to enlarge them, so enjoy :)

I just spent 1 1/2 hours commenting to you only to lose the whole thing in an error. So typical Jonzi, and so frustrating. My stupidity overwhelms me at times! UGH…

Anyway, sorry I hadn’t commented till now, but I was at Louis’, and didn’t have access to his laptop since it was already packed away. It was great getting to read it all today though, very interesting. Your apartment appears to be very nice, and quite comfortable as well. As soon as I saw that orange tree with all the oranges at the very top I knew you’d be climbing that tree. haha You’ve certainly had enough practice, right Babe?

Seeing the Italian architecture, and the fresh food markets brought back some of my fondest memories with Poppi. The markets were definitely a big hit with Poppi, buying the Parmesan, pepperoni and fresh loaves of bread to take back to eat in our room was the best part.

You’re not going to Berlin by yourself, I hope. That would clearly be putting yourself at unnecessary risk. In view of the break in, combined with being in a foreign country, not knowing the language, all of which are such dangerous factors to be considered. I’m hoping, and praying that you are way too smart to put yourself in that kind of unnecessary danger. We want you to stay safe and sound above all else Sweetie. The same goes for Casalduni, there’s nothing more important than your safe return to us. Please remember that before you even consider setting out anywhere on your own.

I’m anxiously awaiting your next blog, it’s almost like being there with you…I wish! Till then, take good care of yourself, stay well and, above all else, stay safe! Love you, PGBE

Ah I’m sorry Joans. Hahahah yeah you put me to work when I was younger climbing those fruit trees! Yeah, I love the markets they’re so much fun to explore and taste the different types of food.

Yes, I went to Berlin by myself but I met up with Charlotte who has lived there her whole life. Of course I’ve been smart so far and I won’t do anything stupid, I promise. Miss and love you too PGBE
